Praying for
Blessings

Friday 13 June

A prayer of St Augustine

Breathe in me, O holy spirit

That my thoughts may be holy.

Act in me, O holy spirit

That my work may be holy.

Draw my heart, O holy Spirit

To love what is holy. Amen

Day 7: Prayer for our own flourishing

Opening

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Reflection

“‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me.” John 14.1

Life is not always easy and the world can seem like a difficult and scary place. At times we are beset by worries and fears and challenges, plagued by anxiety and anger, tempted to despair. In times of darkness we turn to the light of Christ – we pray now for that light to brighten our hearts and scatter the darkness and ask God to bless us with the strength, wisdom and patience we need to flourish.

Petition

Loving God, you call us to walk in your light and promise that the darkness will not overcome it. You know the problems that overwhelm us, the decisions we struggle to make, the old hurts and pains we hold onto. Free us now, we pray, from the darkness and hold us safe in your light. Scatter the darkness of sin and hatred in our lives, release us into your love and pour on us the blessings we need to flourish and do your will. Amen

Closing

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and shall be forever. Amen
