Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful

and kindle in them the fire of your love

What do Christians do when things are going well?

Praise the Lord!

What do we do in bad times, when things are hard?

Praise the Lord!

Whatever life is like, it is always the right time to praise God.

And it is always the right time to ask God for blessings –

whether life is full of joy or each day is a struggle.

And never more than at Pentecost, when we are reminded of the gift of the Holy Spirit – help, advocate, comforter, empowerer. So today, along with friends from All Saints and St Peter's Bounces Road, today we begin a novena, a nine-day festival of prayer and praise, in which we focus our prayers on the Holy Spirit and ask God to pour down God’s blessings on us, on our churches, on our homes, workplaces, families and friends. To pour down blessings on Edmonton.

This will be nine days of prayer, nine days of worship and praise and we invite you all to join in. We have a programme of activities and opportunities for prayer - prayer stations in our open churches, blessed ribbons to take away from our railings, prayer walks where we pray for the streets and places in our parish, a Healing Service and an afternoon of prayer, anointing and praise on Sunday 15th. You can find out more on our Blessings for Edmonton webpage.

We also have nine days of scripture and reflections to help you pray this week - pop into church to pick up a booklet or go to our website to find the prayers for each day.

If you do nothing else, please pray with us. But we would love to see you in church - come along on Sunday at 10 or treat yourself and come next weekend, Sunday 15 June for a service at 3pm with joyful music from our choir and worship band, and anointing by the Bishop of Edmonton, the Right Reverend Dr Anderson Jeremiah.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth. Amen
